Camello Club is a two piece, driving pop rock band consisting of Métis producer and songwriter, Ryan Guay and Cuban-Canadian singer songwriter, Carlos Lopez.

The duo formed in May of 2020 as a creative response to the COVID-19 global pandemic and the lockdowns that ensued. “I could see myself losing my mind a little bit, the longer that the lockdowns went on,” said Lopez, “so it just made sense to get it all out on the page and through the strings of my acoustic guitar.”

Songwriting partner, singer and multi-instrumentalist, Ryan Guay, is no stranger to the Cuban influenced melodies of Lopez’s variety. Back in 2008, Guay recorded and produced the The Legacy of Rudy by Street Pharmacy in Santiago de Cuba. “Carlos has these Cuban melodies and rhythms in his music that remind me a lot of both my time in producing music in Cuba, as well as some of the drum-first music that is so important to my cultural upbringing,” explained Guay. The group strives towards making rhythm-first music in the sense that all of the songs of Camello Club are something that you can listen to while driving or as a passenger on the Camello— a term used in Cuba to describe the curved caravans shaped like camels that carry local passengers wherever they would like to go. “If it’s not driving, it’s not Camello Club,” Lopez remarked on the groups only musical rule.
