March 20, 2020 - Oshawa, ON. — In light of the circumstances worldwide, nationally and within our community, presented by the COVID-19 virus, the Oshawa Music Awards (OMA) will be moving the awards presentation show online. The events scheduled for April 3 at The Oshawa Convention Centre and April 4 at the Music Hall Concert Theatre have been cancelled.
Oshawa Music Awards will be moving online to a series of live streamed segments that can be viewed from home. Each week, beginning April 4, OMA will feature one award category, spotlight the nominees, and announce the winner. The audience will be able to stream the content from the OMA social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Information will be posted on the OMA website at oshawamusicawards.ca once the dates and details of the online presentations are finalized.
“We are thrilled to be able to continue sharing the significant achievements of our nominees and award recipients in a way that allows us to safely showcase our local talent on a worldwide stage. We look forward to hosting an OMA Winner Celebration event when it is safe to do so.” Thao Nghiem, OMA Director.
Through the upcoming weekly live stream, OMA can still present the awards for the enjoyment of a larger audience while also protecting the safety of team members, artists, and guests. This innovative approach, as an alternative option to the traditional award show format, allows the team to continue pursuing the mandate to celebrate the creativity of Durham Region’s music industry, including the tech community.
“Our team at the Oshawa Music Awards understands that these are stressful times for everyone. We recognize that music can be vital to mental health, to soothe the soul, and help us to cope and heal during difficult times. It is extremely important to continue our efforts to unite and uplift the Durham Region music community through the celebration of our local artists, and to acknowledge their significant contributions to the music industry and our culture,” Tony Sutherland, OMA Director.
All tickets purchased for the Oshawa Music Awards event on April 4 will be upgraded with extra benefits to be put toward the future OMA Winner Celebration event. Furthermore, ticket refunds are available at Eventbrite. Anyone choosing not to refund a ticket, the full amount will go to the Unison Benevolent Fund – an organization that provides counselling and emergency relief services to the Canadian music community. If you have made hotel reservations, please contact the hotel directly.
Oshawa Music Awards Management team thank you for your continuous support and hope everyone will stay healthy and strong together to combat this pandemic.
