Relic Kings are a three member rock band based out of Moose Factory, Ontario and include the following members.
Michael Archibald of Cochrane, Ontario on Lead Guitar; Rob Faries of Moose Factory, Ontario on Vocals; Jimmy McLeish of London, Ontario on Drums.
Relic Kings originated from a 2013 recording project under the name Black Stone. The Black Stone recording project combined the song-writing and musicianship of Michael Archibald, Rob Faries, and Stewart Sutherland. Along with session drummer Josh Stanford Black Stone recorded their eponymous ten track album at Jukasa Studios in Ohsweken, Ontario during the spring of 2013. Released in June of 2013 it was Produced and Engineered by Darren Magierowski. The album produced the hit tracks “Push Me” and “It’s Alright”, with both tracks receiving considerable airplay throughout Canada.
After receiving a strong response to the album Black Stone formed a touring group, with rhythm guitarist Darrell McLeod joining to complement the four members who performed on the album. The highlight of 2013 was opening for The Sam Roberts Band in their hometown of Moose Factory, Ontario.
The spring of 2014 saw the departure of Josh Stanford and the arrival of Jimmy McLeish on drums. This coincided with the recording of the Black Stone single “Are You Ready”. Recorded at Jukasa Studios in Ohsweken, Ontario “Are You Ready” was Produced and Engineered by Darren Magierowski. Released in May 2014 it was a swan song of sorts for the original Black Stone lineup as one of the founding members, Stewart Sutherland, departed the group shortly after the recording sessions. With a summer of shows booked bass player James Gunner was recruited to fill the vacant position. The highlight of 2014 was a live performance at Yonge-Dundas Square in Downtown Toronto, Ontario in celebration of Aboriginal History Month.
The summer of 2015 saw Black Stone perform many shows across Ontario highlighted by an opening spot for legendary Canadian act Honeymoon Suite at the Phoenix Concert Theatre.
In November of 2015 the group convened for three weeks in Vancouver, BC to record an EP with Producer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Metallica, Franz Ferdinand) at Armoury Studios. The six-song Armoury EP was released in June of 2016 with lead single “Take Me Higher” being released at the same time. Prior to the release of the Armoury EP the band made the difficult decision to change their name to Relic Kings. This decision was made to distinguish the band from the numerous groups, businesses, organizations, and shows with the name Black Stone.
Relic Kings kicked off the 2016 summer touring season with a headlining slot at the 2016 Aboriginal History Month Celebration at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto, Ontario. Hosted by the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto it marked the band’s third consecutive performance at the event.
