We, The Micronite Filters, went to Mississippi, the birth place of blues and rock'n'roll, to record an album with Jimbo Mathus,

and the result is a full length LP we couldn’t be happier with. In the process we spent all our money (and other peoples), and now we need your help to get this record pressed. Don't worry, y'all are gonna get some some really cool stuff in return for your generous support.

The Goal

To raise $5000 for the pressing, artwork and sleeve production of 500 records on 180 gram vinyl. We will also produce a music video and promote the launch of the album this fall.

The Story

After a long drive, a couple days in Memphis, Tenn-O-see (the home of Sun Studios!), Gus’ fried chicken, and checking into our new home, the Ole Miss Motel, in Oxford, MS, we met the man known as Jimbo Mathus at the Crossroads... gas station in Batesville, MS, the heart of the Mississippi hill country. We followed Jimbo, with his catahoula leopard cur, Virgil, running beside his van, down some dirt roads near the Sardis reservoir to, quite literally, a shack in the woods.  This was not an ordinary shack in the woods, however, as it contained all the necessary parts to capture the sounds we have been crafting ever so dearly, like 80+ year old RCA microphones, a snare drum from Jim Keltner, old Gibson amps, a case or two of Miller High Life, and engineer Ryan “Rando” Rogers.

Now, a little word about Jimbo Mathus aka Captain Catfish. This guy is a Mississippi living legend. Jim Dickinson called him “the singing voice of Huckleberry Finn”, he’s best known for his work with the Squirrel Nut Zippers, he produced a pair of Buddy Guy albums (including the Grammy winning ‘Sweet Tea’), he’s worked with the North Mississippi All-Stars, Alvin ‘Youngblood’ Hart, and is currently raising hell with the Tri-State Coalition. His knowledge of Mississippi history is unbelievable, and he keeps it straight like no other. When the studio time was first booked Jimbo said, “My sound is very straight forward. Few microphones are used but much skill and heart is required on your part.” Those words inspired us to rehearse as much as humanly possible before our journey to make sure we were ready.

Upon arrival, we proceeded to cut an album’s worth of material in just three days. Under Jimbo’s guidance, we started to play differently. It’s difficult to explain, but something happened. Everything gelled. Jimbo has mastered the art of creating the vibe, and capturing the performance. We went to the land of our heroes, conjured their spirits, and created something timeless and unique, just like they did it before us, live and rough around the edges. The result is a full length LP we’d like to call “Chasing Ghosts”.

We want nothing more than to get this album into your hands, onto your turntables, and into your souls, however, we’ve spent all our money! Not good foresight, I know, but hey, we’re musicians, not bankers. This is where you come in. In order to get our new LP “Chasing Ghosts” pressed (on 180 gram vinyl, no less), a video shot, and promotion started, we need your assistance. We aren’t asking for something for nothing. We’ve put together some delightful perks designed just for those of you, our friends, family, and fans, who contribute to this campaign.
